In design, conceptualizing a 3D object in 2D is practically standard design procedure. This can cause a disconnect between the drawing and the actual model. Here starting with rectangles, I generated shapes that would be used for a tessellation pattern. After deciding on the shape I began translating the piece into 3D. Keeping in mindthe goals for the 2D image, to create a tessellation. The translation kept the underlying idea and structure of the tessellation, and created a prolific 3D model building block.
